經過半年多的努力，文泉驛微米黑終於推出了第一個公開測試版本v0.2.0-beta (Big Bang)。
文泉驛微米黑是一個"自由字體"。該字體包含了所有常用簡體中文、繁體中文所需要的漢字(最新版本包含超過20932個漢字，完整覆蓋 GB2312/Big5以及GBK標準字符 集)。該字體同時還包含了日文、韓文和其他幾十種語言符號。以外，該字體還包含了高質量的Droid Sans拉丁符號和Droid Sans Mono等寬字體，並內置Hinting和Kerning信息。微米黑字體文件極小，特別使用於便攜式電腦設備。

目前的微米黑漢字字型主要參照大陸的國家標準；對於港台字型，我們有可能考慮在後面的版本中補充。我們鼓勵來自港台的志願者參與繪製，並參與論壇的相關討論[1]。

戴爾為何不在上網本上安裝最新版本Ubuntu (9.04) [收藏] [打印] [推薦]

Dell之前發佈了Mini 10v低價上網本，不再使用之前在Mini 10中所使用的1.6GHz Atom N280處理器，轉向主頻稍低的1.33GHz Atom Z520處理器，使得這款上網本的價格直降至299美元，內存則為1GB RAM，在操作系統方面分Windows XP家用版和Ubuntu兩種。比較令人奇怪的是預裝的Ubuntu並不是最新的9.04版本甚至8.10，而是已經存在很久的Ubuntu 8.04，國外科技博客BetaNews致信戴爾詢問此舉，之後戴爾回覆稱安裝最新版本的Ubuntu不符合主流用戶的利益。

戴爾稱堅持使用舊版本Ubuntu主要原因如下。戴爾的一位發言人稱：我們這麼做是為了降低成本，並試圖建立一個穩定的平台。主流用戶並不關心這（Ubuntu）是8.04或是8.10，又或者是最新的9.04版本（他/她可能根本不知道這是什麼）——他/她只關心運行的穩定性，安全性……大多數Linux愛好者不希望使用太過落後的版本，但是他們不是我們所使用操作系統的主要受眾。更進一步，戴爾對此版本的Ubuntu在上網本平台上的運行十分滿意。兩年前我們就在戴爾電腦上預裝了Ubuntu，根據客戶的回饋顯示，這個版本非常不錯。

HP's introducing the Mini 110, an update to its netbook lineup. The Mini 110 has several improvements compared to previous HP netbooks including larger drive capacities, improved graphics performance and more color options.

The Mini 110 will be available in black, white and pink. The standard black version will start at $329 with Windows XP and be available on June 10. A Linux version will start at $279. The Mobile Internet Experience is built on top of Ubuntu.

自從用了 Ubuntu 了以後，發現 X Window 的桌面環境反應有些鈍鈍的，反倒是 Windows 的 GUI 比較流暢 (這裡指的是當 Ubuntu 桌面特效沒開的時侯和 Windows XP 相比)。比較明顯的地方像是以前 XP 在 YouTube 下全螢幕看影片時都不會 lag，但是在 Ubuntu 下看就會；還有瀏覽器在上下捲動網頁時也是，尤其是 background-attachment 屬性設成 fixed 的時侯 (即捲動網頁時背景固定不動只有內容會捲動的時侯，例如像鳥哥的這個網頁) 較容易會 lag，有時甚至連正在播放的 mp3 都會因此停掉。此外，當畫面 lag 的時侯觀看右上角的系統負載指示器

通常會發現 CPU 吃得滿兇的。

會發生上面那些問題可能有很多原因:

1. 有可能是驅動程式的問題，因為顯示卡沒有被正確驅動造成 2D 硬體加速沒被致能。
2. 也有可能是應用程式 Firefox 的問題。
3. 可能是 desktop environment (如 KDE、GNOME 或 Xfce 等...) 或是 toolkit 的問題。
4. 或是 X Window 系統本身的問題。
5. 當然也不排除其它沒列出來的原因。

事實: Linux 不是玩具 - Linux、Google、超級計算機
之前在 Mobile01 看到一個 thread (討論串) 裡面在爭執 Windows 與 Linux 的優劣，其中一位網友直說 Linux 的不是，說 Linux 下沒什麼 game 的支援，甚至說 Linux 只是個玩具 ... 個人認為，「玩具」這兩個字對 Linux 無非是種莫大的誤解與偏見。雖然 Linux 沒像 Mac OS X 或 Windows 那麼 user friendly、GUI 效能也沒像 Mac OS X 那麼好、遊戲沒像 Windows 那麼多，但光是這樣是否就足以斷定 Linux 只是一個玩具？為了推翻這個說法，以下讓我透過這篇文章來為 Linux 平反。

依照Just in Time所提供的數據來計算一下，Google如果採用windows server 2008的話，要花多少錢....
google 粗推全球有450000台server，windows server 2008每套基本款為 NT:36890 (資料來源 http://www.ithome.com.tw/itadm/article.php?c=48903 )
因此全部都改為server 2008的時候，要花費 450000 * 36890 = 16600500000
一百六十六億。
恩....這個數字還沒有包含其他的東西，只有單純「買」作業系統而已。

英文聽力應該要多加練習

之前介紹了如何利用 ubuntu 下載 student post 的文章和 mp3 ，現在劣者要介紹如何下載 icrt EZ News 的 mp3 和文章。

當然也可以直接在他們的網站上聽，不過，下載 mp3 的好處不外乎是
1) 可以傳到手機上多聽幾次，
2) 利用自己熟悉的音樂播放軟體，
3) 放慢播放速度聽，
4) 特別選擇其中任何一句或任何一段聽。

所以將英文廣播下載來聽對劣者而言是很有用的。

標準安裝的 ubuntu 可能並沒有 curl 和 mp3cut 等工具，因此要先安裝一下:

Most distributions configure your graphics card and display automatically, but xorg.conf is still well worth fiddling with. It's a text file that contains all the configurations details required by the X server to deliver a graphical display and provide a connection between your keyboard, your mouse, and the computer. Read on to understand how xorg.conf works, tweak it for maximum performance and add functionality.

In many ways, xorg.conf sits on the surface of your installation like the broken walls of some lost building on an archaeological site. The file contains the last vestiges of what was once a complex and convoluted configuration file, using a syntax and language from a time gone by. Over the years, those old structures have been removed, rebuilt, subverted, tweaked and squeezed through several generations of users, distros and hardware. It has finally got to the point where many modern distributions (such as Fedora 10) eschew xorg.conf completely, taking advantage of the automatic configuration hidden within the newer versions of X.org.
