Hello,

I installed KDE on a new computer for some Taiwanese friends. I installed ibus-chewing and I think I properly configured it.

When I press CTRL-spacebar, I can start typing Chinese. However, the character selection window does not appear at all, so that I cannot select the proper character.

Also, on another computer where the character selection window appears, the font is much too small, so that it's very hard to see which characters are being presented. I used ibus-setup to select a bigger font, but it does not change anything.

It's still very difficult to use Linux/ KDE (Kubuntu) with Chinese. :(

I hope someone here can help me and my friends. I have used linux for a long time (in English) but my friends are Linux newbies and they absolutely need Chinese.

I have 3 problems:

1) On one computer, the character selection window shows with some applications (e.g. Konsole) but not with others (e.g. Konqueror). see screenshots

2) On another computer (my friends' new computer, fresh Kubuntu install), the character selection window never shows up! We can't type any Chinese!

3) The font is too small. (see screenshots).

I have Taiwanese friends (in Taichung / Longjing, near Tunghai) who are windows users, but they really want to try linux for home and for their business. But I have difficulties setting up the chinese input (ibus).

Both use Kubuntu (installed with a Kubuntu CD not a Ubuntu CD).

My computer uses Kubuntu 11.04 (upgraded from 10.11).
My friends' computer is a new one and I installed Kubuntu 11.10.

Actually, on my computer, I can type Chinese within Konsole with one user. I have several users which I use at the same time. The first one (CTRL+ALT+F7) is half Ok. The second one (CTRL+ALT+F8) has the same problem as my friends' computer: even with Konsole, I cannot see the character selection window. Both users have in .bashrc:
export GTK_IM_MODULE=ibus
export QT_IM_MODULE=ibus
export XMODIFIERS=@im=ibus
I don't know what's the difference. :(

sudo jockey-kde




















2. 先把 桌面選單 改爲 classic mode 比較容易 操作
選擇 chinese (traditional) 正體中文 排在 English 前面

如果你發現沒有這一個選項出現
從終端機
sudo ibus-setup
及
ibus-setup









































































































sudo reboot

I think most of this is already properly set up, but I'll check again. I'll go to my friends' house tomorrow morning and I'll check everything.
